Hawley named Fayetteville Observer All-Cape Fear Baseball Player of the Year

After battling through a state 2-A final series with Bunker Hill and surviving in three games, Kyle Hawley is this year's Fayetteville Observer All-Cape Fear region baseball Player of the Year. Hawley said the goal for 2014 was simple. "I wanted to do exactly what we did, go all the way,'' he said. "I knew we had the team to do it, and I wanted to do whatever I had to to get there to help my team out.'' For Hawley, that meant becoming a more effective player at the plate.

"I worked on my swing plane,'' he said. "I wanted to get it leveled out, hit more line drives. Last year in the championship series I didn't do too hot hitting. That was one of the things I did better this year.''

He ended the season with a .402 average that included 40 RBIs.
