In 2013, the Midway Raiders were the state runner-ups of the 1-A classification. After one year and one promotion to 2-A, the Raiders finally have championship hardware.
The Raiders scored four runs Saturday night at UNC-Greensboro Baseball Stadium and held the Bunker Hill Bears to two runs on six hits to take the final game in the best-of-three series and secure the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2-A state championship. Midway posted a quick three runs in the first inning thanks to RBI-singles from Kyle Hawley, Luke Clark and Tyler Pope.
In the moments after celebrating with his team, Midway head coach Jason Fussell said his team never focused on the past, but used the experience from 2013 to move forward.
